We are starting off our Sampler Afghan Crochet Along with a BANG thanks to the efforts of ShopKimberlie!
Introducing the Sunflower Window Block. Isn’t it stunning?? Just looking at it gives me hope that the warmth of summer is just around the corner!
Let’s learn a little more about the square and the designer behind it!
ShopKimberlie is run by HodgePodge ‘Behind the Scenes’ organizer, Kimberlie Goodnough. Anyone who has ever been in a HodgePodge Crochet group exchange knows her very well because without her, exchanges would be far and few between!
You can find her all around the internet!

A few words from Kimberlie!
ShopKimberlie is all about creative freedom. I started this brand 4 years ago with the idea to just go wherever hook and yarn would take me, and not try to fit into any one particular box. Its been fun so far! My designs are eclectic and original, and I always have fun coming up with new things.
Thoughts about her newest pattern, Sunflower Window!
When designing this pattern for the stitch sampler, my plan was to go for simple, simple, simple and I think I achieved that. I took the two most basic stitches in crochet, single crochet and double crochet, and made them work together.
This is an incredibly easy, quick to learn square that is perfect for a sampler.
Once the flower came together and I was working on the border, all I could think about was sunflowers in a garden window and BOOM, the color scheme was born! Using a plain join really ties the whole thing together as a windowpane, and only 9 easy blocks work together as a very quick baby blanket.
Important details about this block from the designer:
Gauge: 25sc = 7”
Skill Level: Beginner
- H/8 – 5.0mm hook
- #4 worsted weight yarn in your chosen shades. I used RHSS.
I hope you enjoy tackling this week’s block and you’re looking forward to next week’s exclusive design from Crafty Ridge!
